Pleasing Everyone but God

Romans 12:1-2 King James Version (KJV)

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Matthew 6:1-8 King James Version (KJV)

Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

In the book of Romans it can be summarized on how Paul witnessed Jesus and how he is now a follower of Jesus Christ. Paul wanted the Roman church to become one. Paul explained to these people how God’s promises are revealed. All humanity is trapped in sin and they need a rescue which is God and Paul’s job is to get the people to understand this. When trusting God your life becomes like Christ and becoming like Christ means you will have unity and when having unity you will also have love and forgiveness.

In Matthew it  talks about how Jesus is God and God is with us. In this book it also talks about how Jesus is born and all the promises that he will bring. Jesus is a teacher on how to love your neighbor. There are different expectations that people see from Jesus such as him healing the sick.  The people also see in the book of Matthew how Christ will die for the sins of his people. A lot of people were offended by his ways in this chapter because it’s not like the usual and they still don’t believe in him which leads to the story we all know about how Jesus died for us. By the end of this chapter we know that Jesus is risen. The summary of this chapter would be that anyone can join by following his teachings.

For the topic “Pleasing every thing but God” there are some specific cycles that we repeat on a daily basis that we know doesn’t line up with what God expects from us such as :

  • Doing what the flesh wants : this can have many examples I chose to just have the statement doing what the flesh wants because that’s normally what we tend to please and we think this is the best decision until reality kicks in.

  • Chasing : We tend to chase everything but Jesus Christ himself. Rather that’s trying to impress someone at work, chasing a man/woman, or just chasing your dreams in general. You should first seek the kingdom and then everything after that will be on the other side as a reward for you. All things normally work together for your good so yes put in the work for what you want but if you’re not doing it in an appropriate manner it will only affect you in the long run.

  • Judging : We judge others as if no sin is the same. This is plain and simple.

  • Not being faithful in your marriage : You’re committing adultery and it’s not pleasing to God if you’re not doing right by his child.

  • Not forgiving : Not only should you forgive but you should do it for your own peace of mind. You may never get the apology and you will be stuck mad and bitter to the point where you can cause your own sickness inside of your body from not letting it go. Trust that the more peaceful you are the more it will help in the long run. Let God deal with those who have hurt you because he will prepare a table for you in the presence of your enemy. You don’t have to fight with that because this is why he fights for you.

We tend to please everything except the only thing that truly matters which is God. However, when we need him that’s when we do everything like fast for days, pray for hours when things don’t turn out how we want them to. We do things the wrong way and receive wrong results. For those who “think” they have it together judging those who don’t is not pleasing God also. We must remember that only God can judge. Love thy neighbor because God sees everything and you will have to face him in the end. As his children the goal is to please the sight of him and not man. When you’re doing what’s pleasing of God the blessings will be more than you desired.
